- generalize some of the library extensions (.so vs .dylib).
Provide as wmake 'sysFunctions'
- added note about unsupported/incomplete system support
- centralize detection of ThirdParty packages into wmake/ subdirectory
by providing a series of scripts in the spirit of GNU autoconfig.
For example,
have_boost, have_readline, have_scotch, ...
Each of the `have_<package>` scripts will generally provide the
following type of functions:
have_<package> # detection
no_<package> # reset
echo_<package> # echoing
and the following type of variables:
HAVE_<package> # unset or 'true'
<package>_ARCH_PATH # root for <package>
<package>_INC_DIR # include directory for <package>
<package>_LIB_DIR # library directory for <package>
This simplifies the calling scripts:
if have_metis
then
wmake metisDecomp
fi
As well as reducing clutter in the corresponding Make/options:
EXE_INC = \
-I$(METIS_INC_DIR) \
-I../decompositionMethods/lnInclude
LIB_LIBS = \
-L$(METIS_LIB_DIR) -lmetis
Any additional modifications (platform-specific or for an external build
system) can now be made centrally.
Improve alignment of its behaviour with std::unique_ptr
- element_type typedef
- release() method - identical to ptr() method
- get() method to get the pointer without checking and without releasing it.
- operator*() for dereferencing
Method name changes
- renamed rawPtr() to get()
- renamed rawRef() to ref(), removed unused const version.
Removed methods/operators
- assignment from a raw pointer was deleted (was rarely used).
Can be convenient, but uncontrolled and potentially unsafe.
Do allow assignment from a literal nullptr though, since this
can never leak (and also corresponds to the unique_ptr API).
Additional methods
- clone() method: forwards to the clone() method of the underlying
data object with argument forwarding.
- reset(autoPtr&&) as an alternative to operator=(autoPtr&&)
STYLE: avoid implicit conversion from autoPtr to object type in many places
- existing implementation has the following:
operator const T&() const { return operator*(); }
which means that the following code works:
autoPtr<mapPolyMesh> map = ...;
updateMesh(*map); // OK: explicit dereferencing
updateMesh(map()); // OK: explicit dereferencing
updateMesh(map); // OK: implicit dereferencing
for clarity it may preferable to avoid the implicit dereferencing
- prefer operator* to operator() when deferenced a return value
so it is clearer that a pointer is involve and not a function call
etc Eg, return *meshPtr_; vs. return meshPtr_();
- use succincter method names that more closely resemble dictionary
and HashTable method names. This improves method name consistency
between classes and also requires less typing effort:
args.found(optName) vs. args.optionFound(optName)
args.readIfPresent(..) vs. args.optionReadIfPresent(..)
...
args.opt<scalar>(optName) vs. args.optionRead<scalar>(optName)
args.read<scalar>(index) vs. args.argRead<scalar>(index)
- the older method names forms have been retained for code compatibility,
but are now deprecated
- consolidate word::validated() into word::validate() and also allow
as short form for string::validate<word>(). Also less confusing than
having similarly named methods that essentially do the same thing.
- more consistent const access when iterating over strings
- add valid(char) for keyType and wordRe
- was generally somewhat fragile. The main problem stems from the fact
that several interfaces may be attached to a boundary. No trivial
means of solving this without too much work for a feature that is only
"nice-to-have".
- Could be related to interrupted builds.
So if there are any parts of the build that rely on an explicit
'wmakeLnInclude', make sure that the contents are properly updated.

ENH: improved feedback from top-level Allwmake
- Report which section (libraries, applications) is being built.
- Provide final summary of date, version, etc, which can be helpful
for later diagnosis or record keeping.
- The -log=XXX option for Allwmake now accepts a directory name
and automatically appends an appropriate log name.
Eg,
./Allwmake -log=logs/ ->> logs/log.linux64GccDPInt32Opt
The default name is built from the value of WM_OPTIONS.
--
BUG: shell not exiting properly in combination with -log option
- the use of 'tee' causes the shell to hang around.
Added an explicit exit to catch this.
--
- Detecting the '-k' (-non-stop) option at the top-level Allwmake, which
may improve robustness.
- Explicit continue-on-error for foamyMesh (as optional component)
- unify format of script messages for better readability
COMP: reduce warnings when building Pstream (old-style casts in openmpi)
